Get Ready for the First Battle for the Boro!
Live music, food trucks, and local vendors: Battle for the Boro has it all! On May 16, 2020, stage bands from across the Southeast will compete in beautiful Downtown Statesboro for up to $1000 in cash prizes and the title of “Best Band in the Boro.” The competition, a traditional battle of the bands event, will feature not only competing bands, but local celebrities and performers, as well. The event venue will feature a food truck park and vendor marketplace set in the heart of the downtown area.

Country Superstars Lonestar to Play Georgia Southern’s Performing Arts Center
The Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern is excited to present country music super group Lonestar for the opening performance of their 2019-2020 Main Stage Series on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now and going quickly!
Just over two decades ago, Lonestar was formed when destiny brought together four Texas musicians trying to make their way to country stardom in Nashville, TN. Now, more than 20 years after they began their journey, they have logged countless miles touring throughout the world, released multiple Platinum-selling albums, and earned ten No. 1 hit singles, including “No News,” “Come Crying to Me,” and the pop-chart crossover smash, “Amazed.”
The band’s awards include a 1999 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Single of the Year and the 2001 Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year. Known for excellent songwriting, pure vocals, and exuberant instrumental tracks, Lonestar merges strong country roots with catchy, memorable melodies. Today, Lonestar continues to inspire rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

Georgia Southern’s Performing Arts Center Welcomes Big Stars and Hit Shows in Their 2019-2020 Main Stage Series
The Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern is knee-deep in tickets this week as they begin their season subscription drive for the upcoming 2019-2020 Main Stage Series. Full season packages are available for patrons who wish to come to all six shows, while a flexible package option allows patrons to purchase advanced tickets to three or more shows. All season subscribers enjoy the privilege of choosing their seats early and maintaining their seat choice throughout the season in addition to the best ticket prices.
This year’s season takes patrons on a trip across the United States, featuring big stars and hit shows from across the country. Beginning with Texas-born and Nashville-based country legends Lonestar, famous for their No. 1 crossover smash “Amazed,” we then venture further west with a glitzy Vegas-style cirque performance from Cirque Mechanics who take the glory days of the American circus to the next level. Next, Broadway comes to Statesboro with the national tour of the Tony- and Grammy-winning musical The Color Purple. Then we start 2020 off laughing with Chicago’s famed comedy troupe, The Second City, and their all-improv performance, Improv All-Stars. In February, the PAC partners with Georgia Southern’s Theatre & Performance to present another Broadway favorite, Jesus Christ Superstar, before finally ending the season strong with a nostalgic performance of beloved Motown artists – The Drifters, Platters, and Cornell Gunter’s Coasters. Previous season ticket holders can renew their subscription now through August 23 while those interested in becoming new subscribers this year can do so beginning August 26. The GSUPAC Presents Inaugural “Emerging Artist Series” Featuring Banditos Plus Local Up-and-Coming Talent
The Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern is excited to present the first-ever Emerging Artists Series performance, featuring Americana band, Banditos. With this program, the GSUPAC aims to support emerging artists who are new to the industry but are at the top of their genre and show great promise.See this unique show on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now!
Hailing from Birmingham, AL, one of the southern rock capitals of the country, Banditos has been described by Rolling Stonemagazine as “equal parts alt-country twang and garage rock bang.” Featuring three vocalists, steel guitar, banjo, upright bass, and hot-footed drums, Banditos sound is stuffed with unique rhythms and energetic melodies. Influenced by rock, soul, bluegrass, and folk, their music is both unexpectedly sweet and electric. Having performed all across the globe at prominent events such as the Newport Folk Festival and Hangout Fest, they now bring their talents here to Statesboro.
The GSUPAC is also planning a special pre-show event. Between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm on the evening of the show the PAC will be hosting a mini-festival in their parking lot, with food trucks, lawn games, and live music showcasing local up-and-coming artists. Bird Dog Jubilee Playing LIVE at The Blue Room
This Friday, February 1st, Bird Dog Jubilee will be jamming live at Statesboro’s very own The Blue Room.
Bird Dog Jubilee is a rock-n-roll collection of instrumentalists that blur the lines between structured songs and improvisational jams. While their roots run deep in Atlanta, their act is building up steam throughout Southeastern venues and festivals. Their chutzpah is epitomized by their ability to seamlessly meld tunes while encouraging impromptu collaborations with fellow musicians live on stage.
Each member has an eclectic set of influences in which they draw inspiration from, but they can always agree on The Band, Phish, or My Morning Jacket while on the road. The synergy of each member’s experiences culminate live on stage providing a unique take each time you attend a performance.
Fresh off recording their debut 3-song EP at Prana Studios just outside the Atlanta City Limits, BDJ is ready to let it ring out and jam with you at their next show. Whether they are blending old ballads, or hashing out new grooves, this is act is always a sight to see at their crux.

“The Platters” Bring Their “Magic Touch” to Georgia Southern’s Performing Arts Center

Formed in 1952, The Platters crashed through the music industry’s racial barriers and onto the rock n’ roll scene to become one of the century’s most important, famous vocal groups.
