Here Comes the Sun Brings the Best of the Beatles to GSUPAC
Come experience a Beatles revue like no other when the Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern hosts HERE COMES THE SUN: Celebrating the Music of the Beatles! This upcoming performance is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now!
Celebrating the Beatles with a fresh, vibrant, and musically authentic act that brings audiences to their feet, HERE COMES THE SUN is an extraordinary tribute to a decade of Beatles hits. Not an impersonation act, this performance features a six-person band of multi-instrumentalist/vocalists with professional credits spanning Broadway, Lincoln Center, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra to create a one-of-a-kind concert experience that celebrates the best music from The Fab Four. As the popularity of The Beatles reached epic proportions, they took musical risks that led to an illustrious catalog like no other band has ever generated. Forgoing silly lookalike costumes and wigs to focus on the music that made them legends, HERE COMES THE SUN recreates this deeply-layered and multi-textured creative period using the combined efforts of six players switching between various instruments in a modern rock-and-roll experience that is sure to satisfy true Beatles fans!
“I have seen a LOT of Beatles acts in my years programming for the PAC, but the guys are the absolute best in the business. I cannot wait for them to bring their talent and authenticity to us here in Statesboro!” says GSUPAC Director Stacie McDaniel.
Tickets are $24 for adults and $12 for youth 17 and under and are on sale now at the GSUPAC Box Office. Discounts are available for Georgia Southern students and faculty/staff. “Godspell” Creates Magic at the Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern
The Performing Arts Center at Georgia Southern is excited to be partnering with Georgia Southern Theatre & Performance to present Broadway favorite “Godspell” as part of their 2019-2020 Main Stage Series. The show opens on Thursday, February 27 at 7:30pm, and will run through March 1.
Godspell boasts a score with chart-topping songs, led by hit “Day by Day.” In the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), a small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables from the Gospel of St. Matthew. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life.
Written in 1971, Godspell embodies the spirit of 70’s generations rock musicals. Since its inception, this show has toured the country and been a musical theatre standard in schools, universities and churches. In 2011 it was revisited by its creators and updated for the 21st century. The same songs are there, with a richer and deeper musical voice and the formal addition of “Beautiful City.” It is this revival that is being performed at Georgia Southern. In addition to “Day by Day”, old favorites like “Prepare Ye” and “By My Side” will be easily recognized by audiences.
Godspell Director Lisa Abbott notes, “The magic of this show is the community it creates not just with the cast but with the audience as well. The message of the show is about acceptance and love and the cast and crew have enjoyed creating ways to tell that story with open hearts and open minds.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and 10 for youth 17 and under and are on sale now at the GSUPAC Box Office. Discounts are available for Georgia Southern students and faculty/staff. Group rates for groups of 10 or more are also available. Visit the Box Office in person Monday-Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, or purchase tickets over the phone at 912-478-7999 or online at www.georgiasouthern.edu/pac.

A Fair Reflection
I found the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair to be delightfully fun, with a unique touch of small-town charm. My husband and I went Monday, the opening night, and hoofed it over to the Heritage Village section. There we had a lovely conversation with Mr. Bowen in the Old Store. He regaled us with the history of the establishment and its role in the community. After that we took a stroll through the historic Aldrich house, watched bees in the bee house, and took in the aroma of woodsmoke wafting from the blacksmith shop.

The attraction that I was most looking forward to – The Kiwanis Pancake House – did not disappoint! Sitting at long picnic tables chowing down on pancakes and local sausage felt like a big community breakfast. That is definitely something unique that Statesboro brings to the fair experience. An elephant ear for dessert and old-fashioned carnival rides took me right back to my childhood fair memories. In short, the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair encapsulated everything charming and nostalgic that I associated with fairs with a dash of local flair.

Thank you to everyone who dropped a suggestion for things to do at the fair! You made this fair novice feel like a truly initiated part of the Statesboro community. – Lauren Della-Piazza
Lauren moved to Statesboro from Pennsylvania to complete her Master’s Degree in Public History at Georgia Southern University.
