Farm Fresh Fun for Everyone During Fair Week in the Boro

Fair Week in Statesboro is one of the best times of the year to explore all the family-friendly activities the Boro has to offer before heading to the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair in the evening.

Kick off the week with the Fair Parade at 5pm on Monday, October 13th in downtown Statesboro. It’s a hometown favorite filled with themed floats, music, and plenty of community spirit.

A lively parade scene on a sunny day shows a large marching band (The Georgia southern marching band) and dance line performing down a city street. The front row features uniformed dancers in gold and white costumes leading with synchronized high-step movements beside a drum major in a navy and gold outfit. Behind them, more performers in matching attire carry blue and white flags while the band follows farther back playing instruments. Spectators sit and watch along the sidewalks as trees and brick buildings line the background under a clear blue sky.

During the day, there’s lots to keep families busy around town. Visit the Georgia Southern Museum to learn about dinosaurs, fossils, and the region’s natural history, or stop by the Center for Wildlife Education to see eagles, reptiles, and other native animals up close. Later, head to the fairgrounds to meet barnyard favorites and exotic animals at the livestock shows and petting zoo.

The Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern is another great stop, offering peaceful walking trails, children’s garden spaces, and a glimpse of the area’s natural beauty before enjoying the outdoor fun of the fair midway.

A scenic garden pathway stretches forward under a bright blue sky filled with scattered white clouds. The brick walkway transitions into a narrow trail bordered by lush greenery, ornamental grasses, and small trees with a mix of green, yellow, and reddish leaves, suggesting the start of autumn. Tall trees frame the background, creating a peaceful, natural tunnel effect that draws the eye toward the forested area beyond.

For hands-on creativity, spend an afternoon at Southern Pottery, where kids can paint their own keepsakes, much like the handmade crafts you’ll find on display in the fair’s exhibit halls. Or, if your family is looking for more action, head to The Clubhouse for bowling, mini golf, laser tag, and arcade games that are perfect practice for the games and prizes waiting for you on the midway that night.

Three decorative plates are displayed on stands against a red brick wall, each featuring handprint or footprint art for different holidays. The left square plate reads “Mama’s Little Firecrackers” and has red and blue handprints with yellow spark designs labeled with the names Anna Grace and Noah and the year 2023. The center round plate shows a Thanksgiving turkey made from brown handprints with the words “Gobble Till You Wobble!” written below. The right round plate has two yellow footprints forming a Halloween design with a white ghost between them, labeled “Trick or Treat Smelly Feet.” All three sit on a dark blue tablecloth, creating a festive and colorful display.

Don’t forget to save your appetite for the Kiwanis Pancake House and all the fair food favorites you can only get once a year. From warm pancakes and sausage to fried twinkies and smoked turkey legs, it’s the perfect way to end a full day of family fun in the Boro.

A young girl with blonde hair, a large white bow, and a denim jacket over a red shirt smiles while sitting at a table during the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair. In front of her is a paper plate with pancakes, a sausage link, a small syrup cup, and a plastic fork. She sits in a crowded indoor area filled with people and folding chairs, capturing a cheerful moment at the community breakfast event.
